What is up with most natural deodorants you find in the stores?! I have grabbed so many different ones from the store shelves that just do NOT work! In fact, I would go so far as to say that they actually made me smell worse. Like, had I not worn any deodorant, I would have smelled better than if I had worn certain “natural” deodorants.
I’m honestly surprised that so many of the ineffective ones are still available. That being said, here are three that do actually work!
Lime and Coconut Oil
I was having this exact conversation with my sister in law, who told me that she found a good solution on someone else’s blog. It really is just lime and coconut. Cut a slice of lime, rub it on your armpits, wait at least two minutes, and then rub some coconut oil over it. She said this had been working for her so I gave it a try. I can say that for DEODORANT, it works okay. It kept any smells away, which is a big deal. But I think most people are really used to using deodorant/anti-perspirant nowadays. So as far as an anti-perspirant, it didn’t really work. If that doesn’t bother you, then this will keep the stink away and is really cheap and easy! As a bonus, the lime and coconut together make a light, natural, tropical scent…
This Homemade Coconut Oil Based Deodorant
- 1/3 cup coconut oil
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1/4 cup arrowroot powder
- 4 tablespoons cornstarch
- Essential oils if you so desire. Lavender, tea tree, or grapefruit would be good options. This isn’t necessary but gives your deodorant a pleasant scent.
My aunt told me about this one a couple of years ago, and I used to make it all the time. I snagged this recipe from theprairiehomestead.com. It worked great for me! It even held up during my workouts and lasted about 24 hours. It worked as an anti-perspirant because of the cornstarch, but it also works okay without it. This isn’t hard to make, and is also much cheaper than any store-bought natural deodorant.
This one is hands down the BEST natural deodorant I’ve ever bought. If you don’t want to make your own, then this is definitely one way to go. My husband and I both love the Cedarwood and Juniper scent, but the lavender and sage smells really good too. It looks like they have a new one, coconut and pineapple, that seems like it would be divine. The only downside to this one is the price. It is a bit expensive, but comparable to other natural deodorants and really effective. You can buy Schmidt’s at Target, Fred Meyer, on Amazon, or on Thrivemarket.com. If you have a Thrive Market membership, which I recommend getting if you buy a lot of natural stuff, it is a little bit cheaper.
Now, go forth and perspire with confidence…
